3 October 2007 LOCAL JEWELRY ARTISANS WIN AT METAL ARTS GUILD OF NOVA SCOTIA COMPETITION The evening of Tuesday October 2nd was a gala event for local jewelry artisans, David and Cynthia Ryder of …and now for something completely different… jewelry from Mboot.net Designs. They were the recipients of a prestigious award presented by the Metal Arts Guild of Nova Scotia at the Guilds annual competition and exhibition hosted at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax. The Ryder's received The Frank Phillips Award of Excellence for for their submission "Ribbon", a woven sterling silver pin accented with rose quartz. This award is one of the three main awards presented at the competition. The awards ceremony opened at 7PM with the arrival of The Honourable Mayann E. Francis, the Lieutenant Governor in Nova Scotia, at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. The presentations were followed by a lively reception and viewing of the exhibit where several of the award winners, including the Ryders, had an opportunity to speak with Her Honour and other distinguished guests of the Guild. The annual competition is a themed event, with the 2007 theme being Which Craft?. This juried competition has 11 distinct categories for work in metal arts ranging from fine jewelry, blade making to sculptural metal work. It featured works by 12 artists with 44 submissions. The exhibition was juried and judged by Wesley Harris of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, whose work is found in many private collections including a brooch made for Princess Anne in 1991; Shirley Fader, an artist of international note, well known for her enamel work and as an instructor at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design; and Susan Hanrahan, Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council. This is the second significant Metal Arts competition win by the Ryder's. When asked, they exclaimed that they "are surprised and delighted because the work that our guild colleagues present is always remarkable, and to receive a top award for technical excellence is truly outstanding when we are surrounded by such exceptional craftsmanship." The Frank Phillips Award of Excellence follows last year's success and receipt of The Touch of Gold Design Trophy for best design of 2006. Which Craft? is on display at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax until Sunday October 28th. The Ryder's work from a private studio near their home in Harvey Station, New Brunswick. Their work can be seen in Fredericton, New Brunswick at the Art Trek Studio Tour from October 13-14th at Mazerolle Gallery, 384 Queen Street; and new work will be shown at their "Connectivity" exhibition at The Foyer Gallery of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre from December 2007 though mid-January 2008. They are also showing at Christmas at the Forum 2-4 Novmber, and the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council Christmas Craft Market, Pier 23 Halifax, November 16-18th and in Ottawa at the Originals Christmas Craft Market, December 6-16th. 4 October 2006 LOCAL JEWELRY ARTISANS WIN AT METAL ARTS GUILD OF NOVA SCOTIA COMPETITION The evening of Tuesday October 3rd was a gala event for local jewelry artisans, David and Cynthia Ryder of …and now for something completely different… jewelry. They were the recipients of two awards presented by the Metal Arts Guild of Nova Scotia at the Guilds annual competition and exhibition. The Ryder's received awards for Best Piece, Gem Stone category for their submission "Borg Mask". The same piece resulted in one of the shows three major awards, the Touch of Gold Design Trophy, being presented for Best Design. The event opened at 7PM with the awards presentation at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, in Halifax, followed by a reception and viewing of the exhibit. The annual competition is a themed event, with the 2006 theme being Fantasies and Fables. The competition has 11 distinct categories for work in metal arts ranging from fine jewelry, blade making to sculptural metal work. This years competition featured works by over 20 artists with 48 submissions. The exhibition was juried by Lynda Constantine of Constantine Design, Frank Phillips and Anne Larsen, who are all well known in the metal arts field in Nova Scotia. This is the first significant competition win by the Ryder's. When asked, they stated that they "are extremely pleased with the results achieved with this year's work for the competition." The Touch of Gold Design Trophy will be on display at their studio until next September. The Ryder's work from their studio space at Hoyt House Artisan Studios, just outside of Kings Landing Historical Settlement in Prince William.

22 May 2006 STUDIO RE-OPENING IN HOYT HOUSE, KINGS LANDING June 3rd is a big day for local artisans, David and Cynthia Ryder of …and now for something completely different… jewelry. It is the first day of the 2006 summer-season at Kings Landing Historical Settlement in Prince William and the re-opening of their studio and gallery-style store in the Hoyt House Craft Manufactory. Jewelers and lapidaries, David and Cynthia Ryder are very excited about the changes they have made in their studio this winter and hope that these changes will better allow them to show visitors how the jewelry is made and provide a more attractive display area for the finished work. This will be their second year in their studio, and as well as continuing to explore their own design styles in stone and sterling, they will be featuring work from 3 new regional artists in the store. The studio will be open to the public daily from June 3 to October 9 during regular Kings Landing hours. The Ryder’s are looking forward to meeting new visitors to the area as well as to seeing their regular clients at the studio. Hoyt House is located at the bottom of the Landing’s Parking lots, near the visitor reception center. Since it is not inside the Settlement itself, there is no admission fee for visiting the studios.

22 May 2005 NEW STUDIOS OPENING IN HOYT HOUSE, KINGS LANDING June 4th is a big day for local artisans, David and Cynthia Ryder of …and now for something completely different… jewelry, and Liz Demerson of Demerson Pottery. It is the first day in the open season of their new studios and stores in the Hoyt House Craft Manufactory at Kings Landing Historical Settlement in Prince William. Jewelers and lapidaries, David and Cynthia Ryder are very excited about the possibilities for business growth in the new location. “After having shown our jewelry at regional farm markets and arts and crafts shows for the past 3 years, we are looking forward to working from this space, where we don’t have to tear it down and pack it up and set it up several times a month. This is a terrific change.” With a permanent studio, they hope to do more new jewelry and stone designs and to use the store as a testing ground for developing a wholesale jewelry line. The studios will be open to the public daily from June 4 to October 10 during regular Kings Landing hours. Both the Ryder’s and Demerson are looking forward to meeting new visitors to the area as well as to seeing their regular clients at the studio. 22 May 2005 LOCAL ARTISANS PARTICPATING IN LE GRAND TINTAMARRE, A PROVINCIAL TOURISM EVENT IN MONTREAL Jewelers and lapidaries, David and Cynthia Ryder, are participating in the upcoming tourism promotional event, Le Grand Tintamarre, in Montreal as partners to Kings Landing Historical Settlement. They will be on site at La Place Des Arts demonstrating their jewelry making and stone cutting skills to the Montreal public that Tourism and Parks is planning to attract to the province this summer. The Ryder’s are “thrilled” to be a part of the Montreal tourism event, which they describe as a “wonderful marketing opportunity for both themselves and for their partner, Kings Landing”, where they have recently set up a full time studio and gallery store. Le Grand Tintamarre is a three-day show at La Place des Arts in Montreal from May 26-28. There will be over 30 exhibitors and tourism partners who will provide a taste of New Brunswick with live entertainment, demonstrations by artisans and culinary offerings to give Quebecois an opportunity to discover the province. This event is organized by Tourism and Parks New Brunswick and is supported by ACOA and RDC, as well as by tourism industry corporate partners and Moosehead Breweries and VIA Rail Canada. This event is part of the $7.4 million five-pronged tourism marketing initiative that will target potential visitors from the northeastern United States, Ontario, Quebec, the Maritime Region and Europe. It introduces the new signature of No Small Wonders / Des merveilles sans pareilles, which describes the natural wonders and the variety of things to see and do when spending time in New Brunswick.
